Au Naturale

I've been thinking about this for a long time, pondering how best to establish a basis for my reviews of products. In the end, I decided that the only honest way for me to go about reviewing things is to show you what I'm starting with.

This is literally what I look like when I wake up in the morning.  No makeup, no filters, no Photoshop. My hair isn't even brushed yet.

To elaborate, I have super-pale but not pinkish skin that tends to be extremely dry, practically nonexistent eyelashes (I wear falsies every day), and strong nails with huge nail beds. My hair is extremely thick, coarse, and frizzy. It, like my skin, tends to be extremely dry even when it isn't damaged. I currently keep it platinum blonde, but it grows jet black. There are a few greys hiding in there as well, but one of the joys of being platinum blonde is that I can't see the greys at all.

So there you have it.  Me, au naturale.

For Grins and Giggles

     Nail art is an addiction. Anyone who gets into it will tell you that the first time you nail that super-cute mani you saw on Pinterest was the point of no return. I love nail art. I especially love simple designs  that end up looking like a million bucks.  Since we're just getting to know each other, I thought I'd throw out a picture of today's mani for grins and giggles. 

For this lovely mani, I used OPI's French Quarter for Your Thoughts as the base color, then snazzed it up with dots and an accent nail in China Glaze's Shower Together. Unfortunately, French Quarter has been discontinued, but if you like this color combination I'm sure you can find a medium grey creme polish that will suffice. 

Difficulty rating: Easy Peasy.

It's what I do.  More than that, it's my passion.  I've been a licensed cosmetologist since 2011 and I work at the Beauty Box Salon and Spa in Kinston, NC.

I'm starting this blog not only to promote our work here at the salon, but to share what I love to do in a more detailed way than just sticking pictures on Facebook or Instagram. I plan on sharing manis and pedis, nail art, hairstyles, how-tos, product reviews, specials going on at the Beauty Box, fun and silly stories of salon life, and just about any other beauty-related material.
